Gord Pyzer was inducted into the Canadian Angler Hall of Fame on Thursday, February 12th at a special inaugural ceremony held at the Spring Fishing and Boat Show at the International Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

 

Pyzer was honoured for a lifetime of angling achievements while being the Fishing Editor of Outdoor Canada Magazine, Field Editor of In-Fisherman Magazine and Television, Co-Host of the In-Fisherman Ice Guide Television Show, Co-Host of the Real Fishing Radio Show, outdoor columnist for a number of newspapers and specialty publications, a featured seminar presenter and speaker at events across North America, winner of several national and international fishing competitions and a champion of conservation and fishing causes across North America.

 

In addition, Pyzer was recognized for his fishing related accomplishments, including the establishment of the first modern  conservation-oriented muskellunge regulations in the world on Lake of the Woods, during his 30-year long career as a senior manager with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

 

During the inaugural induction ceremony it was also noted that Pyzer had won an unprecedented twenty-eight (28) national writing awards including two gold and two silver distinctions in the prestigious National Magazine Awards competition.

 

In concluding his introductory remarks, Outdoor Canada Magazine Editor, Patrick Walsh, noted that Pyzer had been called "one of Canada's most influential people" and that in 2003, the Kenora, Ontario resident was recognized as one of 30 Canadians ... "who have had the biggest impact on hunting, fishing and conservation in Canada since 1972."

 

"To be one of the first two people inducted into the Canadian Angler Hall of Fame is truly an honour," Pyzer said in receiving his award.  "This is one of the proudest moments of my life."
